About HUMM Ocean Labs
Many marine species depend on sound to find food, stay safe, and communicate.
Our mission is to raise awareness of noise pollution and its impacts on marine health and the need to strengthen marine sanctuaries in line with global 30×30 goals.
By preserving and restoring the ocean’s natural soundscapes, we aim to play a vital part in protecting the unique biodiversity of Victorian coastlines, support sustainable fishery management, and ensure future generations can experience a thriving, living sea.

Our Values
HUMM Ocean Labs is guided by a core set of values that shape our vision: A future where human activity and industry move in harmony with nature’s soundscapes sustaining both people and planet, even the most silent voices beneath the sea, across the land, and in the air. We design education programs and conduct research to deepen understanding of sound and the ways animals depend on it to navigate, communicate, and survive.

Connection
We listen to the ocean’s hidden voices to reveal their stories. Sound connects people to place, reminding us that protecting nature gives life deeper meaning.

Efficacy
We strive to provide stewardship to people and place in tune with the rhythms of the natural world. Guided by MOVR, the Most Obvious, Valuable, and Realistic action, we stay lean and focused on what truly matters to our mission and where it counts most.
Resonance
We believe listening leads to action. By sharing open data and insights, we empower communities, councils, and industries to create real change.

Joy
We foster curiosity, wonder, and the delight of learning, knowing joy is the natural outcome of a healthier world.

Critical in Thought, Compassionate in Action.
At HUMM Ocean Labs, we are committed to combining scientific credibility with community warmth. We believe in transparency and data access to ensure credibility and impact for local councils, policy makers, community groups, schools, NGOs, scientists, and donors.
